Three Workshops

Sundays: 6/25, 7/23, 8/13 from 2-9pm

I've designed these three workshops to support each other, each one leading into the next, to help create easy to navigate scaffolding for learning these incredibly important larger concepts. Starting with "NOTAN" we'll champion the dialog between medium and design within an image, and study strategies to enhance our own composition moving forward. In "Grisaille", we'll take a good look at how value systems are constructed, and how we might use this knowledge to help us anchor clear "reference" values in our image that supports the image design before moving into form-modeling. Lastly for the Summer, in "Limited Palette" we'll look at how we can use less and achieve more by restricting the number of pigments in our palettes. We'll be prioritizing harmony and insight into practical color theory application within our work. I hope you can join us!

In Addition to the Live Zoom Workshops:

A Zoom workshop can't cover *all* of this material, so to help you continue to develop the personal art practice you need to create the work you love, we've included a number of videos and PDF documents to help continue to guide you on your journey!

  • Material Walkthroughs

Access videos at any time (before and after our workshop!) that walk you through the drawing and painting materials that we'll be using in our workshops this summer: Graphite, Charcoal, Acrylic Paint, and Oil Paint.

  • Bonus Material

You'll have access to two video demonstrations: 1) an indirect Grisaille Marker and Color Pencil application to help you lean into the grisaille concepts and champion mixed-media in your own practice! And 2) a Limited Palette Color Pencil study to help you further get into the concepts in a new way and learn about the limits of materials!

  • Downloadable PDFs

You'll also have access to two downloadable PDF documents: 1) a Tonal Guide and 2) a Color Systems Guide! Having both of these together will give you a well rounded understanding of the different conceptual models that artists have used in the past, the vocabulary that all artists should know about, and practical reference sheets to help you in your personal practice!
