"NOTAN" is the artful arrangement of "Light" and "Dark" within a composition.

On average, historically this is true- NOTAN involves reducing an image to binary study: light OR dark. This workshop will challenge the limitation of that reduction by including the study of "mark-making", "edge quality", and shifting the binary "on/off" assumption of NOTAN to include middle values which seek to illuminate how Dark and Light can stand for more (such as gesture) in a curated arrangement within an image than just "light and shadow" or "positive and negative".

Yup! I've worked hard to create a workshop that will support artists of all levels, and I know that there will be lots of relevant concepts that you'll be able to introduce into your own personal studio practice after our workshop wraps up. Additionally, the recordings will be available to you (without an expiration date!), so you'll be able to go back and rewatch at any time and pick up new insights as your own practice develops.
